a simple and fun (and did we say useful?) theory of personality

'How To Understand People' using the Wakefield Doctrine
You know what the problem with all these 'theories of personality', 'Meyers-Briggs', 'entenenagrams', 'rand-mcnally-guide-to-your-frickin-psyche', really is?
The problem is that they all are written by rogers (inspired by clarks !!) And because of this, these theories are created first and foremost to look and read as an impressive work of literature. This facade is meant to convey a patina intellectual legitimacy, all in vain. But this category of personality theory is menat simply to convince the audience that they are equipped to go mucking around inside the heads of (other) people. If PT Barnum wrote a book, (and who knows, maybe he did! After all this is a rant and you never have the time to do the proper research when you are on a rant), the title of his book surely would have been: Marks: What they are, Where they can be found and How to get them to give you Money "
In the opinion of your humble hub-writer, the above fake book title seems to characterize the the body of knowledge as it pertains to theories of personality. At least to the extent as found in the digital circus otherwise known as 'the Internet'! I know, I know, someone is saying, "but Mr. Rant Writer, who ever said that all the information and opinion that gets categorized as 'personality theory' on the internet is anything more than the output of frustrated writers who have found an outlet for their insatiable urge to reach the world and any hapless readers who might stumble into the line of fire?, nothing more than collateral damage in the vanity wars of the blogosphere, Huh? Who said that?"
Well, I guess, if you put it that way I have to agree. It is so easy to ... 'make-up things' here in the digital world; how easy is it to fabricate things like theories of personality, educational credentials, credibility in general. And, of course, there is a whole world of legitimate study being conducted every day by the psycho-pharma-academic complex.
But as long as I have spent ten minutes of my decreasing lifespan writing this much of a rant, I might as well try and make a point, offer something of value or, at very least, try and get you people to get on over to the Wakefield Doctrine blog where you will find something that is actually fun and useful in the field of personality theory. And that is how I started this little Post, isn't it?
If you are reading this, you are among the fairly small number of people who have the intellectual qualities that are requisite to getting something useful from the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers ). This quality is one of 'flexibility of intelligence', i.e. the intellectual confidence to imagine that perhaps sometimes black is white, in other words the self-assurance that if one morning you woke up and up turned out to really be down, you could handle it...the certainty-of-self to take a chosen view of the world and put it into use.
So in a nutshell (ha, ha) the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers proposes that we are all born with the potential to perceive the world in three 'characteristic' ways (of a clark or a scott or a roger). At some point in early life (say 3-5 years old), we settle on one way of perceiving the world. (Here is where your special quality is required), once you settle on one world view, the world, reality conforms to that particular view.
The Wakefield Doctrine maintains that there is nothing to traditional personality theory, at least in terms of factors like genetic predisposition or family influence. The Doctrine says that at some point you begin to live in the world of a clark, a scott or a roger . What others may call personality traits are simply one's natural, logical, inevitable, totally appropriate characteristic response to the world, as you perceive it.
If you read the material and understand the world that a clark (or a scott or a roger ) experiences, you will be able to predict their reaction to virtually any life situation. With a ridiculously high degree of reliability. It is simply amazing how much trait coherency there is in the Wakefield Doctrine! One or two quick examples...rogers, for example, live in a world in which everything is quantifiable and all relationships are predicated on the 'herd structure', so it follows that among professional engineers you will find an overwhelmingly high percentage of people with the personality type referred to as rogers. Further, if you look at the 'social landscape' of say, a large engineering firm, you will observe all the hallmarks of a herd-based society, i.e. a lot of rules of behavior that reference an assumed authority, a very high level of what can only be called gossip and a tendency among members of the group to fear and resent outsiders.
Thats all the time we have for today. Click on over to the Doctrine and you will have everything presented in a clear, easy to understand manner...
Oh yeah...two things! the Wakefield Doctrine is gender and culture neutral and since we all begin life with the potential to see the world in one of the three ways, even though we settle on one way (of perceiving the world), we never lose the other two qualities completely. So, as you read, you will tend to think, "Hey sometimes I am a scott and then sometimes I am a roger ! Whats up with that?.
All perfectly normal.

go for it. and i'll tell you how and why and what a good thing it is that there are scotts in the world.
Mindless, eh? Nah. That's exactly what we (scotts) want you to think. That's how we lure you in. as far as the herds of rogers, they're just so damn easy. idiots. all gathered together nice and close so nobody gets hurt or led astray. god forbid any of them should join in on all of the fun. too bad about those guys.
That being said, the adoration, attention, center of the world, whatever you want to call it (as long as you're not there, am i right?) is primarily because we can and enjoy doing it. All hunters love the kill don't they? Some are more adept than others. But as a pack we always come out on top.
Another interestingly amusing article. Now you got my attention, i will have to read the Wakefield Doctrine for more clarifications. Obviously it was written by insightful and intelligent persons (or person) since this was my Grandfathers last name. LOL. dw
Well no matter how you slice and dice it I am all three. Sure on days I can be roger than the others or vice versa ( Multiple Personality? ) Yet I cannot totally commit myself to soley just one! I know I know it is couch time for me!
I enjoyed the "rant", I also enjoyed and bookmarked the "Wakefield Doctrine". It is not only interesting, but I find it very amusing and insightful.
Thanks for the invite, I am looking forward to spending more time reading your hubs and your blog.

When I first started reading the Wakefield Doctrine to see what personality type I was, I was inclined to relate with who (clark, scott or roger) I thought was the best, the nicest. But upon further reading I came to understand that since there is some of each in all of us I shouldn't try to mold myself into one other than what primarily truly fits. Especially since, as it turns out, I'm a scott! Do you think that is common amongst new readers? To be who they perceive to be the "nicest"?
