...damn that Hub score!
( Author Request: I know that I am indulging in some form of ego induced self pity; however I do request that anyone inclined to write a Comment containing the advice: "Hey, don't worry about my Hub Score, I just write for the joy of writing. You would do well to try that, don't let your ego get in the way! and...by the way, I think your syntax is a little..never mind, just enjoy yourself") please refrain. Am not in the mood to hear from the rogerian side of Hub pages.)
This, my newest Hub, is inspired by my sinking Hub Score. I should preface this hub ( hub-lette?, hubini? Hub the Lessor?...Hub, son-of-Hub who was descended from the Great Hub of the Tribe Hub), by saying that I really enjoy reading the Hubs of others here because there is such a ridiculous variety of styles and topics, subject matter and opinions. I think of Hub Pages as... sort of like being in the world's largest magazine store....right after a tornado picks it (the store, not the Hub Pages) up and moves down the street to the Public Library and demolishes it (the Library, not the street) and mixes both and proceeds to Broadway (in New York City) and...explodes.
Like that, 'cept a little tidier. And way more convenient, to read all that mixed material, 'y know.
Anyway, I was saying that I enjoy being a member at Hub Pages, even though most of my 'blog-related energy and effort' is devoted to my primary blog, the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers). The difference with Hub Pages, is that it provides me a place to relax, blogistically-speaking. I come here and read the Posts of others, learn things, laugh, get amazed, be impressed by the people (here) who have genuine skill and talent. And Hub Pages is a place where I can practice my own writing technique, in a non-critical environment. And there is the source of the problem that prompts this Hub.
I do not view Hub Pages as a competitive environment, I do not feel that I am competing with anyone in these pages, quite the contrary, at times I feel intimidated by the fact that people who do know how to write good(lol) might read and Comment on my efforts. (The thing about Hub Pages compared to (my) the Wakefield Doctrine, there is much more feedback here than there is at the Doctrine, Also, the Doctrine blog is about the Doctrine, so most of the Comments we get over there are concerned with the whys and wherefore of the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers.)
In any event, I am much more aware of 'performing' before an audience of skilled writers here at Hub Pages, than I am at my blog. And therein is the start of my problem.
Perhaps it is just a gender issue or maybe a cultural issue, but I cannot watch my Hub Score slide, ever lower, without thinking, "Damn, everyone at Hub Pages is gonna see me in public with a frickin low score!" Despite knowing that nobody is lying awake at night laughing at my Hub Score (now theres a visual! lol ), it still bothers me, ...a lot.
Maybe if I start to lose interest in reading other Hub writers and in 'following people' and the other things there are to do here, it might not bother me so much, but for now it does.
I will say this about Hub Pages, they (the peoplecorp who put up the site and are raking in the click-through money) are lucky. The diversity of the content here is simply amazing. And for those of us who have discovered a minor talent/drive to express ourselves literally and literally, it is one of the few things that exceeds the promise of the 21st Century.
So my ego and competitiveness drives me to write this Hub. Sort of like spending an exorbitant amount of money to get the '87 Nissan professionally detailed, so I can drive around town on a Saturday and feel that I am accepted by the people with the new Audi's and tricked-out Impalas and I can look at their cars without being afraind that they will look back at with disapproval.
...well got to go and vacuum out the car, after all it is Saturday!
(Check out www.wakefielddoctrine.com there is a phone number because we do a 'live call-in blog, that we call Saturday Night Drive...love to hear from ya)

(shhh, she cleared her voice let’s settle back and read… the Winner is about to be announced!) Dear fellow Wakefield “Doctriners” ^_^ I believe that this was the toughest and funniest contest I had to ever judge – although it was a first for me. clark,
I think writing is an experiment. I think, as readers and writers, we have to decide what we have time for.
Speaking for myself, I am thrilled when anyone reads anything I write and makes a comment. I write on Hub and I have another site, that I get next to no comments on. And I have joined a Fiction Group that I would like to try a completely different type of writing to see if I get some feedback about that, but who knows until you try?
I do try to follow a little about all of my followers and I know you are into the Doctrine. For me, I did skim it but I have so much Nursing and Psych stuff in my head that I have to teach that it is not enjoyable to read yet another version. But that is only me. I love your animal stories and that is what I enjoy following.
And, above all, hub scores vascillate like our blood pressure! Don't think twice about your score. Just keep writing and commenting here and there like we all do!
Have a good day, mar!
Thank you for your Comment, marcoujor!
While this (Hub Pages) is something I do for the pleasure of seeing 'thoughts in print', the difference when someone writes a Comment is always worth the effort.
As to my 'other blog', that is fun in a different way, this (especially the Una Hubs) I find to be a way to relax and recharge.
Thank you again for reading and writing!
Nice to meet you Clark, great article! I enjoyed it and am so in agreement with the silliness of hubscore, it's so high school! Judging by this article you seem like a fun interesting kinda guy! Hopefully, when I have some more time I will check out your blog! Kathi
I really must visit you more often - I do so enjoy your style and humor :D Thanks for brightening my Friday!
i enjoy all of your hubs. for me, it's all about getting comments. the satisfaction i get when i write a post on my blog is not only getting comments (although presently scarce from new readers) but seeing the number of views i get. the more page views the better. it means that people are either interested in what i'm writing about or better yet trying to understand what the whole 3 personality type thing (of the Wakefield Doctrine) is about.
keep hubbin' man
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on writing. Very interesting hub. God Bless You.
Thank you for stopping by, I have recovered from my Hubscoritis, (inflamed sense of importance of things like scores and ratings).
lol
I am now comfortable watching my Hub Score go up to 90 and then back to 84 and then up to 90, irregardless of the writing of Hubs.
Come and visit us at the Wakefield Doctrine (www.wakefielddoctrine.com) I always welcome criticism and input from people I know have shared the same experience (i.e. writing for public consumption.)
I think there is quite a lot of randomness to the hubscore, you know, because I watch mine go down when I've been commenting and reading and hub-hopping and all. Unfathomable.
Awwwwwww, don't worry about that hubscore though, Clark. Just write from the heart and so on, and so on ;)
Who am I trying to kid?? I watch my hubscore and my hubberscore daily, and I notice immediately if it goes down near 90, and I immediately read any hub that I can find and comment on it. I pretend that I don't care what my score is, and I say that it doesn't matter, but am I being truthful? Hell, no! I want a 100 score, and I want to keep it! And I think that if my score went down to, say, 89, I'd probably leave this place in disgustedness.
Very goodly written and thought-provoking hubbage. There are one or two friends around here with whom I can share a love of made up wordings, and not-quite-proper-grammar-usage, and it's so refreshing. Very nice to meet you here. I've just had a little peek at the Wakefield Doctrine, and I must say that I'm intrigued. I'm going to subscribe, because it looks exactly like the kind of thing I would like to read, and write too :) Some of it has already made me Laugh Out Loud!
Linda.
Right, I've had a look, and I think I'm a Clark but much more self-assured and much less desirous of fitting in because I'm happy to be me; I have a large helping of Scott, but am not really at all Rogerish (apart from the bit about the belief in a quantifiable universe - that's me). Actually, I've talked myself out of the conclusion that I'd reached. I don't see myself as any of them now. I don't know. What do you think?
...I think you are...a.....roger!
lol
Seriously, the fun of the Doctrine (and it's strength as a personality classification system) is that it is predicated on the world as experienced by the ( 'subject'). It does not rely a list of features or traits or interests or drives (the big flaw in this approach is that everything is 'self-reported') of the person, the Doctrine simply says that we all experience the world in one of three ways.
That you should see elements of all three (in yourself) is as it should be, we *are* all three, we are looking for the one of the three that describes your world, most of the time.
As to why I should say that you are a roger...from your reply, it is not such a leap to see that you take things personally* You (or rather, your reply) is very well-organised and stated to refute a position (that you are a clark or a scott or a roger) entirely on the strengths of the facts that you rally. Again, very well thought out and effective...and rogerian! lol
This is the fun part of the Doctrine! One can see all the elements that comprise the 3 worldviews in everyone and (you) then look for consistent threads (of these approaches) in a person's actions, statements and responses.
And damn, if they are not there! And while it is possible for a person to stubbornly maintain one interpretation of (these) characteristics as they apply to another person, the real test is when other people respond in a similar way.
The other thing about the Doctrine: we say, 'hey don't worry if you do not see which of the three (types) a person is, take your time...try various 'filters' see how things look...the person will stay whichever they are whether or not you get it right'.
the Wakefield Doctrine, as a personality theory, is meant as a tool for you, not for them. Which is simply meant to say, 'hey, this is a way of viewing human behavior...it is useful and fun, but the other person is not going to change, just because you think they are a clark or a scott or a roger.'
Sorry for the overly-long Reply, but I enjoy this kind of response! It requires me to work at understanding how the Doctrine seems to work. Listen, if you are free this evening (10/01/2011) we do our Saturday Day Night Drive call in...(8 to 8:45 EDST) call us (or email me for info) would love to hear from you.
Thanks for taking the time to Reply.
* Here is an interesting thing, that statement ('take things personally') very often causes people to react defensively, as if the idea of 'taking things personally is a bad thing'.
Of course, it is not.
I use those words to imply that you see the world in (directly) personal terms, which is a hallmark of the rogerian worldview

Why don't you try to use your relaxed hub writing instincts at the Doctrine? You mention that you get more comments here on hubpages than at your own blog. Your clark-like personality type is much less detectable here than at the Doctrine. Perhaps if you "perform" at the Wakefield Doctrine you'll get more comments. Afterall, you're publicly addressing the world in your WD videos. That's HUGE for a clark. Think in the same terms as the video producing and hub writing when writing posts at the WD. Entertainment. They don't always have to be dry (no offense-not all of them are dry, although as a clark you are concerned with this) scholastic-like posts while trying to drive the point of the Wakefield Doctrine home for the readers. Can't hurt. Loosen up! Send me a test-drive post performing at the WD. Might be less sressful for you too.
